Reviving a 92-Year Legacy
Lasa Lamsa, under the umbrella of Nilgiri Tea Emporium, carries a rich history spanning three generations. With its roots firmly planted in Hyderabad’s tea culture, the store had a reputation for authenticity but lacked a structured, modern retail experience. The renovation aimed to bridge this gap, transforming the 600 sq. ft. space into a harmonious blend of nostalgia and contemporary functionality.
Challenges & Innovations
The original store was simple—just a single table, a staff member handling transactions, and no defined layout. However, several obstacles had to be overcome:
• Unstructured flow: The lack of spatial organization caused congestion when more than 4-5 customers arrived at the counter.
• Architectural constraints: The building’s load-bearing walls limited structural modifications.
• Aging electrical system: The store’s 70-year-old wiring needed extensive upgrades.
• Emotional connection: A key goal was to instill a sense of nostalgia, ensuring long-time customers felt the continuity of tradition while engaging newer generations.
A Design Rooted in Legacy & Modernity
To create an immersive experience, the renovation introduced several thoughtful elements:
• A dedicated history wall, sharing the store’s journey across generations.
• Customized tea jars, meticulously designed to enhance the brand identity while reflecting the aesthetics of old-world tea traditions.
• Material & color coordination: Moroccan tiles, Duco Paint, and perforated metal elements were carefully selected to seamlessly integrate the brand’s signature colors into the store design.
• Lighting transformation: Bespoke circular perforated plates with integrated lighting now form a distinct ceiling feature, elevating the ambiance while offering soft, warm illumination.
• Improved layout efficiency, allowing more customers to comfortably explore the store. A Total Revamp with Purpose This renovation wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about enhancing functionality, preserving heritage, and enriching customer experience. The result? A space where patrons can not only purchase tea but also connect with the past, engage in an inviting atmosphere, and feel the legacy in every cup.
